What's so special about Canoa?
It is an abandoned farm of quite substantial size where people could develop
an exemplary and harmonious relation with the agricultural potential, instead
of just trashing it out with cheap energy fantasyland. It is a domino, which
has remained standing as a point of contention for some years now, south of
Tucson, Arizona. Dominos have been falling in all agricultural areas around
Tucson and to a lesser degree from Nogales towards the north, running along
the river's course. As long as this domino remains upright, the struggle can
be waged to the north, in an effort to recover lost carrying capacity, or at
least to halt the further loss of potential carrying capacity. If it falls,
the struggle moves to the south. If all potential for ecologically intelligent
activity is denied in this Valley of the Santa Cruz, then this particular struggle
will have to move elsewhere, perhaps to Mexico.
